The hell is Mim’s Table?

Mim’s Table (MTB) is a chef’s table held at my house. I hold these tables twice to three times a month with maximum of 6 guests. 6-8 courses of food will be served. I will decide for you what you will eat. Of course I accept certain requests but not all. Think of it as coming to eat a very elaborate dinner at your friend’s place. We are here to connect.

how did it started?

Mim’s Table is how I try to step out and give a bit more of me to the world and share my experiences. I am anxious and I am not a chef.

I started cooking in 2012 when I was studying abroad in Akita, Japan. (Of all places, right?) My cooking was horrendous, utter betrayal to the cooking world. Being an incredibly picky eater, I realized that I have to start cooking well. My cooking journey continued very haphazardly over the years.

In 2014, while working full time, I took weekend Italian cooking classes to get better. My parents were extremely annoyed with my insistence food complaints at home. “Go cook for yourself!” they said and so I went.

Throughout my path to mediocrity, I learned to love cooking (originally I just loved eating). Why are ingredients treated this way? Where are they from? Why is it used? Is there a meaning behind how it is plated? What’s the concept? How can I eat more of this dish without having to spend too much on flights (I spend waaay too much on food)?

Often, I wonder how far I can go. Where will all of this take me? I put more energy in creating a proper experience. I want people to try the food I like and see the ideas that I enjoy. Maybe it’s about feeling more comfortable when you are a bit uncomfortable. Maybe food is less about the taste and more what makes the whole journey extremely personal.

Maybe it’s all about making the connections with the person sitting the opposite of you. Maybe life’s just that.

It’s about feeling at home no matter where you are.

Who Am I?

Someone who does private dining as a hobby. Cooking is my avenue to creativity, branding, and marketing. I loooooove stand-up comedy, the darker the better. I also did comedy. Eating is one of my favorite things to do in life. Swearing is cool.

I like watching game walkthroughs online because I do not have the skills to definitely do well in death stranding - the walking simulation. Distortion2 speedrun of Sekiro is just god. My favorite past time is scrolling a hundred miles on reddit, twitter, and instagram. Send memes. Save a friend.

Reading is what I try to do a lot more. My music taste is R&B/pop/soul/indie. Theater is amazing. Hamilton is MOTIF. Anime is also damn great. Kpop too.

Exercise is something I am attempting, but I am chronically against living well.

I have an adorable chocolate lab named Wagyu. He once jumped into a lake and my cousin said he is just ‘taking off’ back to ‘Japan’.

I think I am a decent person.
